Wool Mattress Pads/ToppersIf you have ever bought a wool bedding product from Cuddle Ewe™, you’ll understand that wool bedding is one of the most effective ways to naturally increase your comfortability as you sleep. It has so many natural therapeutic effects on the body and the more and more people discover that, the more popular wool bedding products become. So we are going to take a break from the benefits of wool and try to focus on how to ensure the longevity of your Cuddle Ewe™ once you’ve got it! Caring for your wool bedding products is just as important as owning it!

The Nature of Wool

As we can clearly assume, an all natural wool bedding product is likely made from….drum roll please…a sheep! Now when sheep get dirty, do they hop into the water and scrub away? Nope. Our sheep, raised in the Cheviot Hills where climate and vegetation are unique and delectable, grow just enough wool to protect themselves from the cold winter and then to keep them cool in the summer. This is why our wool bedding products are so great with thermoregulation! For a typical sheep, when it’s time, they shed their winter coats and begin growth again for next season. Unlike the wild sheep, you don’t want to shed your bedding! You want to keep it and love on it for years! So let Cuddle Ewe™ give you some great tips for how to properly care for your Cuddle Ewe™ wool bedding products.

Washing No-no’s

Do not wash your Cuddle Ewe™ product. Washing or dry cleaning wool bedding products will ultimately ruin the wool. Our wool is made of little “barbs” that have the beautiful ability to do many things! Unfortunately, getting soaking wet is not a good ability! Much like velcro, these fibers will stick together and then the wool will clump and make your Cuddle Ewe™ underquilt very uncomfortable! So if you can’t wash it, what do you do? Protect it!

Caring for Cuddle Ewe™

An all natural, breathable cotton protective sheet over the underquilt and before the regular fitted sheet is the best way to protect your Cuddle Ewe™ underquilt. Just like any other bedding, changing your sheets once a week is a common way to increase the longevity of your Cuddle Ewe™ wool bedding. When changing your sheets, go ahead and turn or flip your underquilt so that you can be sure that all the parts are being used equally! If you still feel like that’s not enough, using a vacuum’s upholstery attachment can help to draw air through the wool fibers and keep them loose and maintained. You are also able to hang wool bedding products outside and let them air out every once in awhile. If surface stains are present, using a damp rag or sponge with a mild soap solution should do the trick!
